What is this and what does it mean to you?
Well Google Maps API (Application Programmer Interface) is a little tool kit for web developers to implement Google Maps on your web site. They always required special credentials for use and, as a good service provider, we just used ours for our clients web sites. Now Google needs to monetize it.
What does this mean for our clients bottom line? It will still cost you nothing, you just need to create the link to it and we can implement it.
The take away:
1. Google Map API keys must be valid and linked to an account with a credit card. It does not necessarily mean you will be charged BUT it does require you to create billing account.
2. Google provides a free plan that will allow 28,000 map requests and 40,000 direction calls per month. This more than satisfies 99% of what our clients use.
3. Google Maps currently offers 3 segments: Maps, Routes & Places.
4. Google will give you $200 worth of monthly usage for FREE. This is more than most web sites need in their usage.
